About

Khaled Al-Khaled brings a fierce dedication to justice and an unmatched record in criminal defense. Born in 1985, he served as a public prosecutor for five years before joining Hukm, so he understands how the system works from both sides and uses that knowledge to build the strongest defense for every client.

His matters include financial crime and fraud, offences against persons, and pretrial detention applications. He also takes appeals, where careful reading of the record decides the result.

After an Arrest: Questions for Local Counsel

Feb 23, 2026

An arrest is stressful and the first hours matter. Knowing the questions to ask, and the rights you can rely on, helps you and your family act calmly. The details differ by country, so local counsel should always confirm them.

Ask for counsel early

You can usually ask to contact a lawyer before answering questions. Give the lawyer's name and number if you have them, or ask a relative to call a firm on your behalf.

Questions for local counsel

  • What is the exact allegation, and which law does it rely on?

  • How long can I be held before I see a judge or prosecutor?

  • Can I be released on bail, and on what conditions?

  • Should I give a statement now, or wait for advice?

  • Which documents or witnesses will help my account?

Be careful with statements

Anything you say may be recorded and used later. Stay polite, give your name and basic details, and ask for time to speak with counsel before discussing the facts. Do not sign a document you do not understand.

For family members

Relatives can help by noting the date, place and officers involved, collecting identity documents and contacting a lawyer. Avoid discussing the case on social media or with people who may be witnesses.

What a first hearing may decide

  • Whether the person stays in custody or is released.

  • Whether travel limits or reporting duties apply.

  • The date of the next step in the case.

Stay organised

Keep one folder with every paper you receive, and write down dates and names after each meeting. A clear file helps counsel prepare and keeps stress lower. This sample article gives general information and is not advice on any particular arrest.
